Bolton care home expanding to create 20 new jobs

A CARE home is set to expand — creating 20 new jobs in Bolton. The Bakewells in Junction Road, Deane, has received a funding package to construct an extension with a new eight-bed specialist dementia unit along with extensive refurbishment of its existing provision.
The Bakewells care home is run by Andy and Helen Morgan, who bought it 14 years ago, and both are involved in the Bolton Association of Registered Care Homes.

They currently employ 30 staff which will rise to 50 following the extension. Day and respite care services are also available.

Mr Morgan, the home’s business director who is also a Bolton councillor, said: “By adding a dementia unit, we will now be able to care for residents who at present must transfer to other specialist providers as their health declines.

“Our new, purpose-built facilities will also allow us to offer the very highest standards in dementia care.”

The funding has been arranged through Yorkshire Bank.

When complete, the home will be able to accommodate 26 residents in its care home and an additional eight in its dementia unit.

The 25-bed care home takes its name from the original family that owned the property, who manufactured tins for Bakewell tarts.

Derek Breingan, Yorkshire’s Bank’s head of healthcare, said: “The Bakewells is a successful, well-operated independent care home, which is renowned for its high standards of personal care.

“As the population ages, dementia and similar age-related illnesses will also increase. Investing in specialist facilities will ensure that The Bakewells is ready to meet the growing demand for dementia care.”

The business was recently re-assessed for its Investors in People Award for the fourth time. It was first awarded the status in 2000 and assessors praised its facilities, care and staff morale in the latest report.

Mr Morgan added: “The assessors commented on our team-working and, more importantly, how this contributes to the excellent care we aim to provide.”
